Registration Information Banner
Photo of Students Talking Degree students planning to enroll in courses can register by calling the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) System (207-581-6246). All students can register online or by completing a registration form at the C & D Office in Chadbourne Hall and faxing the form to 207-581-3141, mailing it the address below, or call 207-581-3143.
Print copies of the Course guide and registration forms are available by mail at 122 Chadbourne Hall, University of Maine, Orono, Maine 04469 or phone 581-3143. University of Maine degree students must obtain the approval of their advisors before they can register.

ATTENTION New Online Course Students - Please review our Getting Started Manual.

Maine State Law (22-MRSA & 6359) requires all students born after 1956 to furnish proof of immunization against measles, rubella, tetanus and diphtheria if they are either in a degree program or are registered full-time. Send a photocopy of immunizations, signed by a health official, to the Cutler Health Center. If proof of immunization is not provided, students will be unable to register for classes.

TYPES OF REGISTRATION

Courses may be taken on a grade, pass/fail or audit basis. Pass/fail courses carry degree credit but are not calculated into the grade point average. With an audit registration, the student participates in class work similar to a student registered for credit but is not required to prepare reports or take examinations. Degree students should check with their advisors before registering for any course on a pass/fail or audit basis.

ADD/DROP POLICY

Adding a Course
Students may add a new course during the first two weeks of class.

During Summer University students may not add a new course after the second class has met. This policy is strictly enforced because of the abbreviated summer schedules.

Withdrawal from Courses
During the first third of a course, a student may drop a course without academic penalty. (See "Dropping a Course" section below.) During the second third of the course, a student passing a course may drop it without penalty provided the student’s advisor and dean approve. Courses dropped will show on the student’s academic record, with a grade of "W." The grade will not be computed into the semester average. During the final third of a semester, any courses dropped will normally carry a grade of "WF," unless extenuating circumstances prevail. The grade will show on the student’s academic record and will be computed into the semester average. Students withdrawing from a course during the second or final third of the course are required to complete a Late Schedule Change Form available in the Summer Session Office. Late Schedule Change Forms require the signature of the instructor, the student’s advisor, and Dean of the College prior to their being submitted to the Summer Session Office.

Dropping a Course

Dropping a course for which registration has been completed
must be done by completing a "drop" form or by calling the Summer Session Office at 581-3143. Add-drop forms are available in the Summer Session Office, 122 Chadbourne Hall.

Degree students may drop a course via IVR (207-581-6246). Registrations are not automatically canceled when a student fails to attend and does not officially notify the Summer Session Office. Informing faculty that you are dropping a course is not an official withdrawal.

THE DATE A COURSE IS DROPPED DICTATES BOTH ACADEMIC AND FINANCIAL PENALTIES. SEE REFUNDS POLICY

GRADE REPORTS/TRANSCRIPTS

Students who desire printed grade reports may print them at any computer cluster using DSIS, or request them from the IVR system, 207-581-6246. Requests for academic transcripts should be directed to the Office of Student Records, 5781 Wingate Hall, Room 100, Orono, ME 04469-5781. All requests must be in writing and signed by the student. There is no fee for an official transcript. Transcript requests are required to have grades sent to state department of education, school superintendents or employers. Call 207-581-1299 for more information. No partial transcripts are issued and only University of Maine transcripts are issued. University policy prohibits issuing official transcript(s) to any student indebted to the University.
Students who must have evidence of course completion prior to the issuance of grade reports may obtain a statement of summer work from the Office of Student Records, Wingate Hall, Room 100, 207-581-1299.
